Open call for written contributions to the 2017 ECOSOC Integration Segment

The Office for ECOSOC Support and Coordination of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs is pleased to announce an open call for written contributions to the 2017 ECOSOC Integration Segment for NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC.

The 2017 ECOSOC Integration Segment will take place from 8 to 10 May 2017 at UNHQ in New York under the theme "Making eradication of poverty an integral objective of all policies: what will it take?"

Geneva is home to a large number of international organizations, including more than 40 United Nations entities, a thriving community of non-governmental organizations and renowned academic and research institutions. Together, all these actors work for peace, rights and well-being, touching the lives of individuals across the world. Geneva Peace Week offers an opportunity to connect and highlight the work of these actors and to expand the space for dialogue about building peace and resolving conflict in Geneva and beyond.

Global solutions to global challenges: ECOSOC Partnership Forum

Recognizing the key role of fostering fruitful and successful partnerships in the success of the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the United Nations Economic and Social Council is hosting its annual Partnership Forum on 5 April this year. Sustainable development for current and future generations has become the center of everything we do at the United Nations, and thus the ECOSOC Partnership Forum will explore ways to promote partnerships for global solutions to the global challenges as we move towards a sustainable future.

 
2017 Special Meeting of ECOSOC on "Innovations in Infrastructure Development and Promoting Sustainable Industrialization"

The President of ECOSOC will highlight the relevance of industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG-9) to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda by convening a Special Meeting of the Council on 31 May 2017 at UN Headquarters in New York. Resilient infrastructure and sustainable industrialization are key enablers of poverty eradication and can promote inclusion, connectivity and equality within societies. However, it can be complex and expensive to develop, especially in countries in Africa and countries in special situations.
