European Heritage Days 2012

Every year in September, the 50 signatory States to the European Cultural Convention take part in the European Heritage Days – a joint action of the Council of Europe and the European Commission, putting new cultural assets on view and opening up historical buildings normally closed to the public. The cultural events highlight local skills and traditions, architecture and works of art, but the broader aim is to bring citizens together in harmony even though there are differences in cultures and languages.

European Cooperation Day 2012

Sharing Borders, Growing Closer is the byline of European Cooperation Day 2012, which will be marked on September 21, 2012 for the first time to celebrate the success of European territorial cooperation. Many local events will take place on September 21 to mark this day all accross Europe. European Cooperation Day is an initiative by Inetract and a number of territorial cooperation programmes around Europe for promoting the idea and benefits of territorial cooperation to people in the European Union and partner countries.

World Humanitarian Day – 19.8.2012

World Humanitarian Day is a global day to celebrate humanity and the things that we do for good around the world. It also honours those who have lost their lives in humanitarian service around the world, and those who continue to bring assistance and relief to millions of people. It is all about celebrating the spirit of people helping people.

“This year’s World Humanitarian Day presents an historic opportunity to bring together one billion people from around the world to advance a powerful and proactive idea: People Helping People. That is the best way to honour the many fallen aid workers we mourn today, and to celebrate the efforts of others who carry on their noble mission by rushing assistance to those who are suffering,” said the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in his message for the day.
