Youth Volunteering for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Monday, 5 December 2016 UN Headquarters, Conference Room 7, 1:15pm - 2:30pm Light lunch: 1:00pm External visitor's registration: 12:30pm UN Volunteers (UNV) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) are honored to cordially invite you to a New York celebration on the occasion of the United Nations International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2016. This side event will feature voices of youth volunteering locally and globally to implement the 2030 Agenda as well as perspectives from Member States and UN partners on the contribution of youth volunteerism for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The objectives of this side event are to: 1. Pay special tribute to youth volunteers who are engaging their time, energy and skills contributing to the implementation of development and peace programmes in general and to the SDGs in particular; 2. Promote volunteerism as a means of implementation and localization of the SDGs through dialogue, knowledge-sharing, capacity building and exchange of experiences among youth-led groups and other civil society organizations, governments and international organizations; 3. Trigger a productive discussion on novel aspects of youth volunteerism as an opportunity for individuals to show solidarity as well as contribute toward harnessing the demographic dividend. |
